Northwestern Travels to Wisconsin for Showdown on BTN

9/12/2017 11:30:00 AM | Men's Soccer

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern continues its 2017 campaign with a pair of Big Ten matches this week. The Wildcats travel to Madison, Wis., on Wednesday, Sept. 13, for an 8:30 p.m. CT showdown with the Badgers, before hosting No. 1 Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Martin Stadium. Wednesday's road contest at Wisconsin will be Northwestern's fourth away game in its last five outings and will air on the Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and Paul Tenorio on the call.

Northwestern (1-4-0, 0-1-0 B1G) is looking to snap a four-game losing streak on Wednesday night, while Wisconsin (1-1-2, 0-1-0 B1G) dropped its first contest of the campaign last time out (Sept. 8) in the form of a 2-1 loss at Michigan.

Series History
Wisconsin owns a 9-24-5 advantage in the all-time meetings between the Badgers and Northwestern. Twenty of the 38 meetings have been decided by a goal or less, including the 2016 contest where Northwestern fell, 2-1, in overtime at Martin Stadium. Elo Ozumba scored the Wildcats' goal in the 14th minute on a header from Mike Roberge and Camden Buescher.

Before head coach Tim Lenahan's arrival at Northwestern, the Wildcats were 2-17-3 against Wisconsin. Northwestern has gone 7-7-2 against Bucky since Lenahan took over in 2001.

Youth Movement
Head coach Tim Lenahan and Northwestern have leaned on their underclassmen in the early portion of the season with nine first years and sophomores having made two-or-more starts in the Wildcats' five contests. Newcomer Garrett Opperman has started all five games and has played a team-high 454 minutes in the back third. Sophomores Ty Seager and Mac Mazzola are tied for the team lead in points (2) after each scoring in Northwestern's, 2-1, come-from-behind victory over Valparaiso in the season opener.

New Guy In Net
First-year goalkeeper Miha Miskovic has started the last two games in net for the Wildcats and has tallied 10 saves in three appearances this season. His 3.30 saves per game places him fifth among Big Ten goalkeepers. Miskovic recorded a career-high five saves in the effort against Ohio State (Sept. 8) last time out. Tyler Miller (20011-14), who is currently with the Seattle Sounders of the MLS, is the last Northwestern goalkeeper to play as a true first year.
