
Northwestern heads to SIU Invite

SIU INVITE INFORMATION
EVANSTON, Ill. – Chicago's Big Ten Team travels to Carbondale on Nov. 3-4, to take on No. 18 Missouri, Kentucky, and Southern Illinois in quad meet competition. Action begins at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, while Saturday's competition gets underway at 9 a.m. CT.
Kentucky hosted all four teams last season in Lexington for a quad meet, in which the #B1GCats defeated the Salukis, 265-101, but fell to Missouri and Kentucky.
Northwestern is coming off of a sweep of UIC and the University of Chicago, where the Wildcats won 12 of the 14 events they competed in.
The men's relay teams continued their strong start to the season, taking first and second place in the 200-yard medley relay. One week after tallying a season-best time against Georgia and Georgia Tech, the quartet of Alex Snarski, Will Hofstadter, Ryan Tate, and Almog Olshtein finished first with a 1:32.06 time, while the team of Tyler Lis, Thanas Kountroubis, Arjun Sharma, and Keegan Bundy took second at 1:33.67.
Snarski also finished first in the 100-yard backstroke event at 50.88. Tate and Sharma also went 1-2 in the 100-yard butterfly at 49.54 and 50.75 respectively.
DJ Hwang continued to impress in his first year of competition, finishing first in the 1,000-yard free event at 9:29.90. It was Hwang's third first-place finish in four meets. The first-year out of Honolulu, Hawaii also set a personal best in the 500-yard free event for the second consecutive week, winning the event at 4:36.51.
The tri-dual meet against UIC and the University of Chicago saw Junior Jack Thorne finish second at 51.00 in the 100-yard backstroke event. Thorne also took third in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:53.68. First-year Jeffrey Durmer set a season-best time in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:56.61.
No. 18 Missouri (1-0, 1-0 SEC), led by head coach Greg Rhodenbaugh, defeated South Carolina, 154-144 to open the 2017-18 season. The dual meet saw the Tigers win 7 out of 10 events.
Kentucky (1-2, 0-1 SEC) looks to rebound after falling to No. 1 Indiana, 233-77 and to No. 15 Tennessee 216-84 in their last tri-dual meet.
Southern Illinois swept Truman State, 158-130, and McKendree, 161-134, in their last competition.
