Northwestern Takes No. 9 Notre Dame to Overtime
10/3/2017 9:03:00 PM | Men's Soccer
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Northwestern and Notre Dame needed overtime for the third straight year, but it was the ninth-ranked Fighting Irish taking a 2-1 decision over the Wildcats Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.

First year Tommy Katsiyiannis scored the first goal of his career when Sean Lynch dropped off a pass for him at the 36th minute mark and Katsiyiannis finished it off to the back of the net. The assist was Lynch's second of the season. He has tallied a point (2g,1a) in three of the Wildcats' previous four contests.
" I am really disappointed for the guys," said head coach Tim Lenahan. "We put everything we had into this game and came close to getting the result. Rouven Wahlfeldt coming out of the game with an injury really changed our shape. Notre Dame is a great team and had a great deal of possession, particularly in overtime. I was hoping we could find a way to hang on. With four out of our next five games at home, the breaks are going to start coming our way. We are looking forward to making some noise this last third of the season."
Felicien Dumas scored the equalizer for Notre Dame in the 80th minute, while Jon Gallagher netted the game-winning goal on a header in the 99th minute. Sean MacLeod, Sean Dedrick and Jack Casey each tallied assists in the win for the Fighting Irish.

Robbie White was spectacular in net for the Wildcats, facing 17 shots and making five saves, including three in the second half.

Katsiyiannis finished with a pair of shots, while Ty Seager, John Moderwell and Camden Buescher each tallied quality shots. Buescher hit a one-timer in the 25th minute that just sailed right of the post. Early in the second half Seager made a run down the sideline with the ball and put a shot that went just over the crossbar.

After playing three straight road games against ranked opponents, Northwestern will return home to Martin Stadium to host Western Illinois on Monday, Oct. 9 (Columbus Day) at 2 p.m. CT. Monday is Youth Day at Martin Stadium and Northwestern soccer is inviting all students, staff, and family from the greater Chicagoland area to celebrate Columbus Day with $3 tickets to the game.
