EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team notched its third dual match win of the season, earning a 6-1 victory over Harvard on Saturday at Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats got off to a fast start, winning the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. The 24th-ranked duo of Erin Larner and Lee Or was the first to finish, cruising past Lexi Milunovich and Jenna Friedel, 6-1.
The sixth-ranked team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp followed up with a 6-2 win over Erica Oosterhout and June Lee. Brooke Rischbieth and Rheeya Doshi held a 4-3 first-set lead over Harvard's Annika Ringblom and Sabrina Xiong when the doubles point was clinched.
Lee Or started singles play with a win for Northwestern, putting away Irene Lu with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Chatt made it 3-0 'Cats with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Natasha Gonzalez at No. 5.
June Lee gave Harvard its lone point of the day as she pulled off an upset over Lipp who is ranked No. 104, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. Shortly after, Rischbieth secured the match for the Wildcats, defeating Nika Besker 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.
At No. 3, Doshi came up with another point, cruising past Annika Ringblom in the second set, 6-1, after a tough, 7-6, win in the first set.
Larner capped off Northwestern's day with a hard-fought 7-6, 6-4 victory over Jenna Friedel at No. 2.
The 'Cats return to action next Saturday, Jan. 28 as they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on Tulsa at 10 a.m.
