Northwestern Travels to Battle Iowa

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving teams both head to Iowa City on Saturday, Jan. 21, to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in a Big Ten dual meet at 11 a.m.

Last time out, senior Jordan Wilimovsky broke the pool record in the 500 free and qualified for the NCAA Championships with a 'B' cut time of 4:18.99. He also posted a 'B' cut time of 14:57.64 in the 1,650 free. Junior Almog Olshtein finished first in the 50 free with a 20.60.

Senior Andrew Cramer finished second in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions with scores of 317.90 and 357.00, respectively.

Freshman Valerie Gruest Slowing led the women's team and won the 500 free with a time of 5:54.03 while taking home first in the 1,650 free in 16:52.39. Junior Sydney Modeas and senior Lauren Abruzzo finished out the top three for the Wildcats in the 1,650.

Sophomore Olivia Rosendahl dominated the diving events and won the 1-meter competition with a score of 287.95 and the 3-meter competition with a 304.50.
Iowa's women's team defeated Illinois 213-87 last weekend while both the men and the women lost to Notre Dame.

Iowa's men's team features sophomore Kenneth Mende and junior Jerzy Twarowski. Mende has posted NCAA 'B' times in the 100 back and 200 back while Twarowski has done so in the 100 fly and 200 fly.

Senior Emma Sougstad of one of six women to swim a NCAA 'B' time this season for the Hawkeyes. Sougstad has done so in the 50 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, 100 fly, and the 200 IM.
Last season the Northwestern women's team defeated the Hawkeyes 190.5-109, while the men came up short with a score of 174.5-125.5.
