Northwestern Wins Nine Events, Falls at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa
— Northwestern men's swimming and diving team placed first in nine different events Saturday afternoon at Iowa, but the Wildcats could not hold on and fell to the Hawkeyes, 166-134, in dual meet action.
 
The Wildcats posted a strong start on Saturday by winning the 200 medley relay and taking a one-two finish in the 1,000 free. The quartet of Nick Petersen, Will Hofstadter, Ryan Tate and Almog Olshtein won the opening relay with a time of 1:30.15. In the distance race, Jordan Wilimovsky took the top spot in 9:06.47, while teammate Carter Page followed in 9:30.77.
 
Wilimovsky also won the 500 free event in 4:27.96 and placed third in the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.76.
 
Charlie Cole picked up nine points for the Wildcats in the 200 free when he swam the race in 1:39.02 to claim the top spot.
 
Hofstadter dominated the breaststroke events on Saturday, winning both the 100 and 200 events. The sophomore finished the 100 breast in 56.27 and the 200 breast in 2:03.52.
 
Coming off a first-place finish in the 50 free last week against Notre Dame, Olshtein again was able to claim a first place finish in the sprint event. This time coming in with a time of 20.39.
 
In the penultimate race, Jonathan Lieberman turned in a time of 1:52.93 to win the 200 IM.
 
Andrew Cramer scored a 340.20 in platform diving to win the event. The second place finisher scored a 293.65.
 
Northwestern will return to the pool next weekend when it travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for a meet with Purdue and Minnesota (Jan. 27-28).
