SUMMARY - The Northwestern field hockey team broke a two-game losing skid as they defeated their host Richmond 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Wildcats improve their record to 2-3 as Richmond falls to 2-4.
Nicole Smith (Warnbro, Western Australia/Como Senior) scored her second goal of the young season as she converted her penalty stroke with 24:00 to go in the first half. Northwestern would never trail in the game. Less than four minutes later, NU added an insurance goal off a corner play as Diane Provencher (North Conway, N.H./Kennett) fired a shot into the cage for the second Wildcat goal of the afternoon. Lindsay Millard (St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute CD) closed out the Wildcat scoring as she knocked home an indirect corner.
Richmond scored with 5:34 remaining in the game as Holly Chase, assisted by Lauren Duffy, converted on a corner play for the only Spider goal of the afternoon.
