EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern field hockey team dropped a defensive battle to the Iowa Hawkeyes at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill. In a game that did not count toward the Big Ten standings, neither team converted any penalty corners.
The lone goal came when Northwestern was called for a foul inside the circle, giving Iowa a penalty stroke. Iowa's Tiffany Fodera converted the penalty stroke beating Northwestern goalkeeper Jessica Yates (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest).
One goal is all Iowa would need as they held off numerous scoring opportunities late in the second half preserving the win. Senior Lindsay Wright (St. Catherine's, Ontario/Ridley College) led the `Cats with three shots on goal.
These two teams will meet next Sunday in a Big Ten conference matchup in Iowa City.
