Volleyball Falls in Five to #25 Illinois

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's volleyball team took 25th-ranked Illinois to five games Friday night, but could not pull out the match in the deciding game and fell, 3-2.
Game scores were 15-6, 11-15, 15-9, 9-15, 12-15.
NU had its largest attendance in program history. A total of 1,157 spectators filled Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Northwestern won the first game, 15-6, but dropped the second. The Wildcats rallied back with a 15-9 win in the third game. The Fighting Illini took game four, 15-9, to even the score. The ?Cats fell in a intense fifth game, 12-15.
Northwestern had three players finish with double figures in the kill category, with Jennifer Zagorski leading the way with 11 kills and 10 digs. Carmen Burbach had 17 kills and Sarah Ballog recorded 12 kills.
Tracey Marshall (12 kills, 14 digs) and Shadia Haddad (11 kills, 10 digs) led the Fighting Illini to the win.
The Wildcats, now 2-9 (0-1 Big Ten) on the season, return to the court Saturday, meeting Indiana during the opening weekend of Big Ten play.
