Scott Arey was promoted to associate athletic director of facilities in September 2010 before taking over a brand new Event Management department as associate A.D. for event management in 2018. Arey has spent more than 25 years working at Northwestern in some capacity, previously holding positions as assistant athletic director (2002-10), assistant director of athletic facilities (1999-02) and rec sports coordinator/director of intramurals (1991-99).
Arey oversees Northwestern's 15 athletics and recreation facilities, and the department charged with their day-to-day operation and upkeep as well as event management for all home intercollegiate contests. He also oversees Northwestern's grounds crew responsible for maintaining competition and practice venues for all 19 varsity programs along with recreational sports.
During his time at NU, Arey has been intimately involved with every major facility creation, expansion or renovation since 1999, including the recent Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium, Chap & Ethel Hutcheson Field, Rocky and Berenice Miller Park, and Lakefront Athletics Facilities projects.
Arey, a Carbondale, Ill., native, graduated with a bachelor's degree in recreation administration from Southern Illinois University before earning his master's degree from the University of Illinois in sports administration. Arey lives with his wife, Beth, and three daughters, Kate, Alex and Quinn, in Glenview.
