Joe Seymour enters his first season on the Northwestern staff in 2025 as the Wildcats’ special teams assistant, following a six-year tenure at North Dakota and a brief stop at Indiana State.
Seymour joined the Northwestern program after serving as a special teams assistant at Indiana State during 2024. Prior to that, he spent six seasons at North Dakota, working with both the special teams and offensive units in a variety of roles, including as an intern and graduate assistant.
While at UND, Seymour played a key role in one of the most productive special teams units in the FCS. In 2023, North Dakota led the nation in kickoff return average (27.0 ypr), highlighted by First-Team All-Conference return specialist Luke Skokna, who notched one of UND’s two kickoff return touchdowns that season.
Seymour also helped oversee punt return units that consistently ranked among the nation’s best in blocked punts, finishing in the Top 10 in blocked punts in four of his six seasons with the program. In 2022, UND scored two touchdowns off blocked punts.
During his time in Grand Forks, Seymour contributed to North Dakota’s first Missouri Valley Football Conference Championship in Spring 2021.
A native of North Dakota, Seymour earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from UND in 2022 and completed his master’s degree in kinesiology in 2024.
