Jack Morelan joined Northwestern’s Department of Athletics and Recreation in March 2006. He is responsible for oversight of athletics and recreation facilities located on the main campus. He is also involved in various facilities construction projects, most recently assisting with upgrading the lighting and ceiling liner at Combe Tennis Center.
Morelan oversees facility operations for field hockey, lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, as well as men’s and women’s tennis. He also represents the department working in the Emergency Operations Center during football game days, NU graduation ceremonies, and other campus events.
In 2016, Morelan served as tournament director for the Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament and NCAA Women’s Soccer Championships. In addition, he has prepared successful NCAA Championship bids for Lacrosse (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), Men’s Soccer (2012, 2013, 2014), and Women’s Soccer (2016, 2017).
Morelan also works closely with the Department of New Student and Family Programs for special events held in our athletics and recreation facilities. In 2010, Northwestern University’s Division of Student Affairs recognized Morelan for outstanding contributions to their department.
Prior to his time at Northwestern, Morelan served as general manager of Tucson Sportspark in Tucson, Arizona, a private outdoor event facility hosting daily volleyball and slow pitch softball leagues, ASA girls fast pitch tournaments, youth baseball leagues and corporate events. In 2005, Morelan received the USSSA Spark Plug of the Year Memorial Award.
Morelan spent more than four years working in the event management department at the University of Arizona, overseeing game day operations for volleyball and softball as well as assisting with football, men’s basketball and summer camps. While at Arizona, Morelan served as tournament manager for NCAA Championships in Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds (2005), Softball (2001, 2003, 2004), and Volleyball (2000, 2002).
Morelan graduated from Indiana University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education mathematics, and earned a Masters of Arts in 2001 from the Center for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Arizona.
