Gia Dougherty joined Northwestern in 2022. She is responsible for managing the health care of the Women's Cross Country team and the Spirit Squad.

Dougherty is a graduate of The University of Iowa where she earned a degree in Health and Human Physiology. She received her Master’s degree from Grand View University, where she spent her second year of graduate school working with Northwestern Football during their 2020-2021 season. Dougherty came to Northwestern from Auburn University where she worked with women's soccer and women's gymnastics from 2021-2022, as an intern athletic trainer.

Her professional interests include treating athletes with relative energy deficiency in sport, gait analysis assessment in runners, and providing patient centered care to her patient panel. Dougherty holds certifications in Run DNA Gait Analyst (Level 1 and 2), Dry Needling Foundations 1 and 2, Hawk Grips Certified (Level 1).

Dougherty is originally from Huntley, IL and resides in Chicago. In her free time, she enjoys reading in her book club, and working on her small business, The Body Acceptance Project. She enjoys spending time with her dog, Buster, and fiancé, Jeremy.
