EVANSTON, Ill. - Cyrus Mahjoob was named Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Mahjoob helped the 'Cats to a pair of weekend wins over Purdue and then-No. 62 Indiana with two victories apiece in both singles and doubles action.

In singles play, Mahjoob provided match point in both victories. On Friday, he clinched Northwestern's 4-0 sweep of Purdue with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. He followed that up with an even more electric victory in Sunday's win against Indiana. Bumping up to No. 1 singles, Mahjoob bounced back from a 6-1 defeat in set one to defeat Sam Landau 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to provide the final point in a 4-3 Northwestern win.

Mahjoob also impressed in doubles action. The junior partnered with Ethan Schiffman in both matches to help Northwestern collect both doubles points. Facing the Boilermakers, Mahjoob and Schiffman came away with a 6-4 victory to clinch the match's first point. The duo then moved up to the No. 1 position on Sunday, where they came back from an early deficit to outlast Indiana's duo 7-6 (8-6) in a thrilling tiebreak.

With the victories, Mahjoob improved to 12-9 in singles action this dual season and 12-9 in doubles play as well, playing primarily at the No. 2 spot in both. He is the first Wildcat to be named Player of the Week since Presley Thieneman on Feb. 14, 2024.

Mahjoob and the 'Cats return to action this Friday afternoon, when they're set to visit the No. 28 USC Trojans in Los Angeles at 5:00 p.m. CT.
