ROSEMONT, Ill. — Senior forward Nick Martinelli was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team (coaches, media), the league office announced on Tuesday.
Martinelli has earned second team all-conference honors in back-to-back years. Northwestern has placed a player on the All-Big Ten first or second team in four straight seasons: Boo Buie (first team: 2023, 2024); Chase Audige (second team: 2023); Martinelli (second team: 2025, 2026).
For the second consecutive season, Martinelli won the conference's regular-season scoring title, averaging 22.7 points per game on 50.1% shooting, 41% 3-point-percentage and an 80.9% free throw percentage. The senior pulls down 6.2 rebounds per game. He is one of two high-major players averaging at least 20 points and six rebounds on 50+% field goals and 40%+ 3-point percentage.
Martinelli is the first player to lead the conference in scoring in consecutive years since Zach Edey (Purdue) did so in 2023 and 2024. He broke his own single-season program record for points in the Wildcats' regular season finale at Minnesota on March 7, extending his season tally to 682. Martinelli is the first player in Big Ten history to score at least 20 points against all 17 conference opponents
His scoring average (22.7) is the highest by a Wildcat since Dale Kelley posted a school-record 24.3 points per game in 1969-70. Martinelli has scored in double figures in 56 of his last 58 games, and had a streak of 30 games, the longest by a Wildcat since Evan Eschmeyer (1997-99, 65)
He joins Joe Ruklick (1957-58), Rich Falk (1963-64), Dale Kelly (1968-69), Billy McKinney (1975-77), Stack (1982-83) Evan Eschmeyer (1997-99) and Buie (2023-24) on the list of Wildcats who've received multiple first or second team all-conference honors.
He was also named Northwestern's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Martinelli and the Wildcats will face No. 18 seed Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament's first round at approximately 6:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 10 at the United Center. The game will be televised on Peacock and NBCSN and can be heard on WGN Radio 720.
