Wildcats Split Saturday Doubleheader against SEC Foes

2/14/2026 3:25:00 PM | Softball

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Northwestern split a doubleheader against a pair of SEC foes on Saturday afternoon at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational.

The Wildcats opened the day with a 3-0 win over Missouri behind a complete game shutout from Marina Mason in the circle. It marked the first-ever collegiate victory for Mason, as well as the first complete game shutout by a Wildcat pitcher since Lauren Boyd against Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament on May 16, 2025. In the back half of the doubleheader, the Wildcats dropped an 8-3 decision to No. 17 Georgia.

Four different Wildcats (Grace Nieto, Emma Raye, Tru Medina) turned in multi-hit efforts in the win over Missouri, while Mason held the Tigers lineup to just two hits on the afternoon as she carried a no-hit bid midway through the fifth inning.

Kelsey Nader got the scoring started for the Wildcats in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out single to left field to score Bridget Donahey. Two batters later, Raye kept the momentum going with a single to left field to bring home Nader.

The Wildcats added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Kansas Robinson provided a one-out single to drive in Grace Minarovic.

Riley Grudzielanek made the start against Georgia, and retired nine of the first 10 batters she faced against a potent Bulldog lineup that had scored 40 runs in its first four games of the Clearwater Invitational. However, Georgia capitalized twice in the fourth inning with a three-run home run, as well as a two-out grand slam, to take a 7-0 advantage.

Trailing 8-0 in the sixth inning, Northwestern rallied with a sacrifice fly from Medina to score Nader, followed by a two-RBI single from Robinson, to cut the deficit to five. However, the Wildcat bats could not string another rally together in the seventh inning.

Northwestern closes out its weekend at the Clearwater Invitational on Sunday as the Wildcats face off against No. 8 Texas A&M at 11 am CT in a game that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
