EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's swimming and diving teams are headed to compete with Illinois neighbor, the University of Chicago, this weekend at a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 11 am CT.
Most recently, the Wildcats were seen breaking school records at their first invitationals of the season. The swimming team raced at the Texas Hall of Fame Invite, where the men took home 745.8 points and the women took home 710. In Columbus, the divers took on the Ohio State Fall Invite with the men's team securing 202 points and the women claiming 152 points.
Five men's swimming records were shattered after a collective effort from Joshua Staples, Stuart Seymour, Oliver Kós and Diego Nosack. Together, the four smashed the previous record in the 800 free relay by four seconds. Individually, personal and program bests were set by Staples in the 200 free and 400 IM, and Seymour in the 100 back and 100 fly.
Women's swimming followed close behind the podium after Zoe Nordmann finished with two times in the 1000 and 1650 free that each sit third-best in program history. Sydney Smith earned the same accolade for her time in the 50 free.
Men's diving closed out the invitational with five strong top-10 finishes. Women's diving also claimed a top-8 finish.
Despite their impressive performance, the Northwestern men's team dropped from their ranking of No. 24 to No. 25 in the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) poll. However, the Northwestern women's team returned to the rankings, moving from a non-ranked position to No. 21 in the poll.
Both teams are looking to prove themselves in the hometown competition at UChicago.
