Wildcats Set to Host Purdue, Minnesota in Tri-Dual Meet

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving closes out regular season action this weekend, squaring off with Minnesota and Purdue in a split-site tri-dual meet. The swimming action kicks off from Norris Aquatics Center this Friday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m. CT and resumes the next day at 11 a.m. CT. The diving action is set to take place in West Lafayette, Ind., at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 30 and continues at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The then-No. 25 men's team was victorious over the No. 19 Badgers with a final score of 161-133. The No. 22 women fell 154-146 to No. 15 Wisconsin. In the most recent CSCAA rankings, the men climbed to No. 19, while the women moved to No. 23.
The men's 400 medley relay consisting of Stuart Seymour, Joshua Staples, Connor Schuster and Oliver Kós broke a pool record with a 3:05.27 finish.
The 'Cats also dominated in diving events, as Adam Cohen broke program and pool records with a final score of 409.75, improving his previous 3-meter diving best. On the women's side, Chloe Sharpe came out with the win for the 1-meter diving event with a score of 312.30.
The conference matchup closed out with the 200 free relays, as the 'Cats claimed first for both squads. The women's team, consisting of Lindsay Ervin, Ekaterina Nikonova, Audrey Yu and Amy Pan, set a pool record of 1:28.06, securing a seat in the NCAA Tournament with an A-cut time. Cade Duncan made waves in the men's 100 free, finishing in 42.31. The personal best, pool and school record, is good for fourth in the Big Ten.
Last time out, Purdue dropped both sides of an in-state dual meet at Indiana. The Boilermaker men fell 209.5-90.5 to the No. 3 Hoosiers, while the women lost 186-114 to No. 9 IU.
Minnesota is coming off two huge victories for its first home meet of the new calendar year, winning all 26 events in a tri-dual against St. Thomas and South Dakota State.
Up next, the Wildcats will compete at the Big Ten Championships. Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships are set for Feb. 18-21 in Minneapolis, Minn., while Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships are set for Feb. 25-28 in Madison, Wis.
