‘Cats set to split squad for second time this season

EVANSTON, Ill. (January 16, 2026) – Northwestern track continues its indoor schedule on Saturday, when it competes in a pair of meets.  A group of 'Cats will head to the Pacific Northwest for the UW Preview in Seattle, Wash., while another contingent will be in action in suburban Naperville, Ill. at the Pat Heenan Invitational.

Northwestern will feature prominently in the 3,000m run at the UW Preview, which is set to begin at 5:20 p.m. CT inside the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor Facility.  Ava Criniti, Anna Hightower, Jackie Holman, and Maddy Whitman will compete in heat three of the event.

Action at the Pat Heenan Invitational, which will be hosted by North Central College at the Al B. Carius Track, will get underway at 10:30 a.m. CT.  The Wildcats are slated to compete in the 800m run, mile run, and 4x400m relay at the meet.

In its most recent action, Northwestern sent a group of student-athletes to the Phoenix Invitational in Chicago, Ill. last Saturday. The 'Cats enjoyed a successful afternoon in Hyde Park, sweeping all four events in which they saw action.

Olivia Capala cruised to her second straight victory in the 800m run (2:14.62), while the pairing of Mia Mraz (9:54.50) and Cary Drake (9:56.47) finished first and second, respectively, in the 3,000m run, leading a dominant Northwestern effort that saw the Wildcats occupy the top seven spots on the final event leaderboard.

Allegra Massey notched the first individual win of her first-year campaign, running 5:10.81 in the mile run.  The Wildcats' 4x400m relay, a quartet consisting of Northwestern's 3,000m run group traveling to Seattle, capped off the day with a time of 4:20.45 en route to victory.

After being idle next weekend, Northwestern is back in action January 30-31 at the prestigious Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
