
Northwestern Opens Big Ten Play at No. 11 Iowa

EVANSTON, Ill. – Coming off a top-five road win, Northwestern women's soccer opens up Big Ten play as it travels to Iowa City for a matchup with No. 11 Iowa on Friday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. CT on B1G+.
Last time out, the Wildcats (4-1-2, 0-0-0 Big Ten) knocked off No. 4 TCU, 1-0, for the highest ranked road win in program history and first top-five win since defeating No. 3 UCLA, 1-0, on Aug. 29, 2010. Kennedy Roesch's seventh-minute goal stood as the game-winner as NU controlled the game, outshooting the Horned Frogs 11-6. The loss was TCU's first at home since Aug. 20, 2023, when it fell 2-0 to No. 6 Florida State. The Horned Frogs were unbeaten in their last 18 games at home (15-0-3) and had won seven straight on their turf.
Big Ten Freshman of the Week Nyamma Nelson posted her fourth shutout in the win, the third-most by a first-year goalkeeper in program history.
Also earning a weekly conference honor, Brooke Miller was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, anchoring the back line in a standout performance. Miller and the Wildcats' defense limited TCU to just six shots, its fewest in a game since Nov. 18, 2022 vs. Michigan State (six).
Northwestern has scored first in six of its seven games, and is 4-0-2 this season when scoring first. NU has posted a clean sheet in each of its four wins.
Thursday's game will mark the 29th meeting in program history between the 'Cats and Hawkeyes. NU leads the all-time series 16-10-2. Iowa claimed last season's meeting 2-1 in Evanston, while NU won 2-1 in the last meeting in Iowa City in 2023.
