EVANSTON, Ill. - After earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, redshirt first-year goalkeeper Juliana Boon has been tabbed for the honor by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Boon earns the national accolade as she has played a key role in the Wildcats' first ever four-shutout start to a season.
With 12 saves through her first four collegiate starts, allowing zero goals by opponents, Boon's defensive efforts have helped Northwestern (4-0) remain the only NCAA DI team that has not allowed a single goal. This past weekend, Boon posted nine saves at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge where the Wildcats faced No. 5 Duke and No. 8 Boston College. Boon's effort in the 'Cats' shutouts pushed the team to collect its first ranked wins of the season, remain undefeated, and have zero goals scored against them.
Another day, another accolade for Juliana Boon ??

Boon is the first goalkeeper for the 'Cats since 2003 (Sherri-Anne Nyberg) to collect four shutouts as a first-year. Nyberg also wore No. 77 for Northwestern. Boon is also the first goalkeeper to log four consecutive clean sheets for NU in their first season since Shannon Small in 1990.
The redshirt first-year currently leads the conference, and nation, in goals allowed (zero). The last Wildcat to earn NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week was two-time NFHCA All-American Annabel Skubisz (9/25/24). She received the accolade four times throughout her 'Cats career.
Boon and the 'Cats continue non-conference play on the road this weekend, taking on Louisville and Miami (OH) in Kentucky. NU will meet Louisville on Friday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Wildcats face undefeated Miami (OH) at 10 a.m. CT.
