‘Cats get early look at host course for NCAA Midwest Regional

EVANSTON, Ill. (August 28, 2025) – Northwestern cross country officially begins its 2025 season on Friday, as it heads to Stillwater, Okla. for the Cowboy Preview.

The women's 3k race is slated to get underway at 8:45 a.m. CT from the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course, which will also serve as the site for November's NCAA Midwest Regional.  A link to live results can be accessed above.

Now in her seventh season piloting the Wildcats, head coach Jill Miller's team was slotted at No. 4 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Preseason Rankings.

Miller welcomes back a strong nucleus of returning letterwinners, a core that includes five of the team's top seven finishers from last season's regional meet, where the 'Cats placed third overall in the team race.  That group features a pair of 2024 USTFCCCA All-Region honorees in Ava Earl and Ava Criniti.

Earl put together another standout cross country campaign in 2024, collecting the third All-Region nod of her career, in addition to earning Second Team All-Big Ten Conference accolades.  Recently named to the Big Ten's Runners to Watch list, the Girdwood, Alaska native accounted for three of the team's top five 6k times last season.

Criniti enjoyed a breakout redshirt first-year season, scoring in all six of her appearances.  The Lexington, Mass. product clocked a 6k personal-best 20:20.7 at the Big Ten Conference Championships before placing 25th overall at the NCAA Midwest Region to secure All-Region distinction.

Along with an impressive group of first years, Miller also announced the addition of Colorado transfer Samree Dishon to her roster this past May.  Prior to her time with the Buffaloes, Dishon earned USTFCCCA All-America honors at New Mexico, where she placed 37th overall at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Following the Cowboy Preview, Northwestern returns to action in two weeks at the Big Ten Conference Preview on Friday, September 12 in East Lansing, Mich.
