PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 19, 2025) – In an announcement by the R&A on Monday, recent Northwestern graduate Cameron Adam (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston Castle School) has been selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland at the 50th Walker Cup from September 6-7 at Cypress Point in Pebble Beach, California.

First established in 1922, the Walker Cup is contested every two years by the top ten male amateur golfers from the United States and Great Britain and Ireland in a Ryder Cup style event, with the USGA and R&A selecting the teams. Each day begins with four alternate shot matches in the morning, followed by singles matches in the afternoon.

Notable competitors from the Ryder Cup include Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, and Scottie Scheffler for the USA, as well as Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, Justin Rose, Paul Casey, and Robert MacIntyre for Great Britain and Ireland.

Adam becomes the fourth Wildcat to compete in this prestigious amateur event, joining the likes of Luke Donald (1999, 2001) and Matt Fitzpatrick (2013), who also represented Great Britain and Ireland, while Chick Evans competed for the United States in the 1922, 1924, and 1928 Walker Cups. Northwestern is one of two Big Ten schools to be represented this year at the Walker Cup.

Since graduating in June, Adam has enjoyed a successful start to his amateur career, qualifying for the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush after finishing as the top performing amateur across three events in the month of June in The Open Amateur Series.

Adam secured his spot in The Open with a victory in the St Andrews Links Trophy, triumphing in a playoff to become the first Scottish winner of the event since 2014. Adam then led Great Britain and Ireland to a victory in the St Andrews Trophy over the continent of Europe, winning all four of his matches in the process.

Most recently, Adam joined his former Wildcat teammate Daniel Svärd at the 125th U.S. Amateur at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

The United States currently lead the all-time Walker Cup series 39-9-1, winning the last four consecutive events.
