MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - No. 39 Northwestern women's tennis (8-6, 1-1 Big Ten) split a road swing this weekend in its first taste of Big Ten dual play in 2025. The 'Cats dropped a match to the 17th-ranked Badgers in Wisconsin in Friday's conference opener before clinching a dramatic 4-3 victory over No. 60 Minnesota on Sunday.
Wisconsin (10-1, 3-0 Big Ten) was dominant from start to finish in the weekend's opening action, starting with quick victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim the match's first point. In singles action, the Badgers were no less effective, winning all three of the top spots in straight sets to clinch a 4-0 victory over the 'Cats.
In Sunday's matchup in Minneapolis, the Wildcats flipped the script and picked up a pair of commanding doubles victories themselves. Sydney Pratt and Neena Feldman, playing together for the first time this dual season, won 6-1 at the No. 2 spot ahead of Kiley Rabjohns and Britany Lau, who won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
With the 'Cats up 1-0, the Gophers (8-8, 0-3 Big Ten) made it a battle during singles. Minnesota picked up the first three singles points at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 2 positions to take a 3-1 lead with three matches to play. From there, Feldman continued her impressive dual season with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles. Pratt also extended her unbeaten start to dual play with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles to knot the team score up.
Down to the No. 3 position, teams tied at three all, Lau came through for the 'Cats for the second time this season. She delivered match point with a hard-fought 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-3 win. It was good for the second walk-off singles win of Lau's season, after she performed a similar feat in Northwestern's matchup with Georgia Tech on February 2.
The 'Cats will return home next weekend to continue Big Ten dual play in Evanston, where they'll host Nebraska and Iowa to open the home portion of their conference schedule. Friday's match against the Cornhuskers will begin at 4:30 p.m. CT, while Sunday's battle with the Hawkeyes is scheduled for a 12 p.m. first serve.
