EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 60 Northwestern Men's Tennis (10-8, 3-1 B1G) will look to ride its momentum into the weekend as the Wildcats welcome No. 26 USC and No. 41 UCLA to Combe Tennis Center. The 'Cats are set to face the Trojans on Friday at 6 p.m. CT before battling the Bruins on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
This past weekend, Northwestern picked up back-to-back ranked victories over No. 51 Indiana and No. 60 Purdue - the first time the Wildcats have done so since 2023, when they defeated No. 23 Illinois and No. 45 Nebraska. The 'Cats have now come out victorious in six of their last seven matchups, earning them a spot in the ITA Team Rankings for the first time in 2025.
Felix Nordby and Chad Miller head into the weekend having won five of their last six matches at No. 2 doubles. Both competitors finished the weekend with a 3-1 record after both sweeping their respective singles matches for a third straight weekend. With the pair of wins, Nordby extended his unbeaten singles streak to 14 straight matches.
USC (8-4, 2-0 B1G) and UCLA (4-6, 2-0 B1G) both opened conference play by defeating Purdue and Indiana as well.
The Trojans come into the weekend winning five of their last six matches, including a win over No. 25 Pepperdine on February 15. The matchup on Friday will be only the fourth meeting between the two programs, with USC emerging the winner in each of the previous three.
The Bruins recently snapped a four-match losing streak with their first two conference victories. Previously, their last dual victory had come during ITA Kickoff Weekend in a 4-2 defeat of Georgia. Following the pair of wins, the Bruins enter the weekend with four singles competitors featured in the most recent ITA singles rankings: No. 17 Spencer Johnson, No. 29 Rudy Quan, No. 75 Emon Van Loben Sels and No. 120 Aadarsh Triathi. Tripathi is also one half of the 19th-ranked doubles duo in the nation, alongside partner Alexander Hoogmartens.
The Bruins and the 'Cats will match up for the third time in the last five seasons, now - for the first time - as conference foes. Northwestern claimed both of the first two matchups, including a 4–2 victory to advance past the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
Following the weekend, Northwestern will finish its two-week homestand with a doubleheader against Illinois and Youngstown State next Saturday. The 'Cats will face the Fighting Illini at noon, then welcome the Penguins for a 6 p.m. CT first serve Saturday evening.
