Northwestern looks to cement third-straight winning season

EVANSTON, Ill. (November 6, 2025) – Northwestern men's soccer closes out the 2025 regular season on Friday evening, entertaining Ohio State in a 7 p.m. CT kickoff at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.

Currently sitting at 7-6-3 overall (2-5-2 B1G), the Wildcats can secure a third straight winning season with a win or draw against the Buckeyes.  Northwestern last had a run of three consecutive above .500 finishes from 2012-14.

LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern dropped its 2025 road finale this past Tuesday, falling to Wisconsin by a 1-0 final at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis.  Joe Suchecki paced the Wildcats in the defeat with a team-high three shots, while Peter Riesz, Italo Addimandi, and Doug Hainer each put an attempt on goal.

SCOUTING OHIO STATE
Behind a 76th-minute goal from Tanner Creech, Ohio State (6-9, 3-6 B1G) snapped a five-game slide by dispatching Penn State, 1-0, last Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Max Trejo led the Buckeyes on the defensive end, tallying a pair of saves in goal en route to posting his third shutout of the season.

Ohio State is led by head coach Brian Maisonneuve. The eighth-year bench boss piloted the Buckeyes to one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2024, finishing 16-2-4 overall (7-1-2 B1G). Ohio State won a share of the Big Ten regular season title before bringing home the Big Ten Tournament crown and ultimately advancing to the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA College Cup.

Following the loss of Second Team All-Big Ten pick Marko Borkovic (5 goals, 3 assists) after only eight games this season, the trio of Creech, Aaron Hurge, and Nick McHenry has been at the forefront of the Buckeye attack, each tallying a pair of goals. Luciano Pechota has a team-high five assists to his name.

Trejo has started all but one game this season between the pipes. The redshirt freshman netminder holds a 1.79 goals against average and a 0.638 save percentage.

SERIES STUFF
Friday's regular season finale will serve as the 45th all-time meeting          between Northwestern and Ohio State. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series, 24-14-6 (.614), a margin that was bolstered by a 2-0 win over the 'Cats last season on October 25, 2024 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

In Ohio State's last visit to the shores of Lake Michigan, Northwestern roared back from an early deficit with four second-half goals to secure a 4-2 victory on September 24, 2023. Jason Gajadhar, Bryant Mayer, Brandon Clagette, and Fritz Volmar tallied goals for the 'Cats in the victory.
