'Cats Host No. 8 Gophers in Welsh-Ryan Arena

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern Wrestling (2-4, 0-3 B1G) continues Big Ten dual action this weekend as they host No. 8 Minnesota (5-1, 1-1 B1G) inside Welsh-Ryan Arena. First whistle between the 'Cats and the Gophers is scheduled for noon CT on Sunday, January 26.

LAST TIME OUT
The 'Cats last wrestled last Friday, when they fell to No. 15 Michigan at home. Northwestern had three wrestlers put up victories against the Wolverines, headlined by Trevor Chumbley's ranked win at 157 lbs. Chumbley returned to the mat for the first time in a month and put up a 5-0 decision over No. 15 ranked Chase Saldate. Also in the win column were Dedrick Navarro, who earned a 14-0 major decision over Wilfried Tanefeu at 125 lbs, and Massey Odiotti, who picked up his second dual meet victory of the season with an 8-6 decision over Nolan Wertanen at 133 lbs.

SCOUTING MINNESOTA
The Golden Gophers boast a 6-1 record and a No. 8 ranking in the NWCA Coaches Poll ahead of their meeting with the 'Cats. They come to Evanston after back-to-back Big Ten victories, including a 39-3 victory over Wisconsin on Friday in Madison. Heading into action Sunday, InterMat ranked all ten Golden Gophers starters in the top 25 at their weight classes, including six in the top ten.

SERIES HISTORY
The 'Cats are 4-22-1 against Minnesota in dual meet action since 1990, with the Gophers taking the last meeting 39-0 last season in Minneapolis. Northwestern's last victory against Minnesota came on January 7, 2023 - an 18-11 win in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
