‘Cats put three in top five as part of impressive showing
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (September 13, 2024) – Three 'Cats finished inside the top five as Northwestern turned in a dominant showing en route to winning the team title at the Big Ten Preview this evening in Champaign, Ill.

Northwestern compiled a team score of 40 points, outdistancing No. 19 Wisconsin (63 points) by 23 points for the team championship. Indiana placed third with 84 points, while event host Illinois (121 points) and Iowa (140 points) came in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ava Earl spearheaded the Wildcat attack at the Orange and Blue Golf Course as each member of Northwestern's top five set a new 6k personal best. Out of Girdwood, Alaska, Earl took over seven seconds off her top effort at the distance, surging across in 20:17.3 to finish third overall.
Fresh off a seventh-place showing at the Badger Classic last Friday, Holly Smith came in just over three seconds back of Earl, crossing in 20:20.8, an eight-second personal best, to finish fourth. Ava Criniti posted a time of 20:32.9, shaving well over a minute of her previous personal best, to claim fifth place.
Chloe Wellings bested the top 6k showing of her career by six seconds, earning an 11th-place finish at 20:47.6. Skye Ellis rounded out the top five for the Wildcats, clocking in at 21:04.0, a 36-second personal best, to secure 17th.
The 'Cats return to the course on Friday, September 27 when they visit Madison, Wis. for the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational.
