‘Cats Compete On National Stage At NCAA Championships

Quartet of Wildcats represented Northwestern in Columbus, Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 27, 2024) – Four Wildcats saw action as No. 6 Northwestern fencing competed at the NCAA Championships last week inside French Field House in Columbus, Ohio.
Representing the Wildcats across two days of competition were Karen Wang, Karina Vasile, Levi Hoogendoorn, and Megumi Oishi.

Making her second national appearance in as many years in the epee, Wang was victorious in 10 bouts across five rounds of head-to-head competition. The reigning Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) champion in the event capped off competition with a spotless 4-0 mark in the final round of pool action to place 21st overall.
Vasile closed out an impressive first year with the 'Cats by making her NCAA Championships debut as she competed in the foil. The Bucharest, Romania native closed action with eight wins in pool bouts en route to finishing 21st.
The pairing of Hoogendoorn and Oishi carried the banner for Northwestern in the sabre, with each scoring six wins. Hoogendoorn, who, like Vasile, made the first national appearance of her career, took 21st, while Oishi came in a spot back in 22nd as she made a second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships.
