'Cats Thunder Past Herd, 7-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's tennis improved to 5-3 on the season with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Marshall on Friday evening in Evanston.
In their first home match in nearly a month, the 'Cats came out hot with a pair of doubles wins over The Herd. Sydney Pratt and Elisa Van Meeteren won their match 6-4 ahead of Maria Shusharina and Britany Lau, who took their match to tiebreak before securing the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-4) victory.
The 'Cats continued to impress in singles play. Pratt finished first in straight sets, besting Marshall's Aisling McGrane 6-1, 6-3. She was followed by Christina Hand, who also took just two sets to secure her point. She took down Doroteja Joksovic 6-2, 7-5 to put Northwestern just one point shy of victory.
Shusharina's match at the second position was the clincher for the 'Cats; she went 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 for the fourth point of the match, locking in Northwestern's fifth victory of the season and preserving their perfect home record.
After the clinch, Justine Leong, Kiley Rabjohns and Neena Feldman all added on singles points of their own. Leong won 6-3, 7-5 at number one, while Rabjohns took the super tiebreak point for a hard-fought 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) victory at number four. Feldman wrapped up the match with the second singles victory of her career in bounce-back fashion, winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The 'Cats will continue their homestand on Sunday with a doubleheader as they host Brown and NIU at Combe Tennis Center. Their match against the Brown Bears is set to begin at noon, and first serve against NIU is scheduled for 5:30.
