Wrestling Gears Up for 60th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern wrestling returns to action this weekend as they prepare to close out the 2024 calendar year at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill. Sunday's action is set to start at 9:30 a.m., with the second session kicking off at 7 p.m., while Monday will feature semifinals beginning at 10:30 a.m. and podium matches at 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern wrapped up its non-conference dual season last Thursday, when they downed Cal Poly, 29-14, on the road. Six 'Cats delivered individual victories in the team win, including falls by both Massey Odiotti (133 lbs) and Giosue Hickman (141 lbs). No. 19 Maxx Mayfield (165 lbs) and No. 12 Evan Bates (197 lbs) racked up seven takedowns apiece to both remain undefeated in dual match action.
THE FIELD
The 'Cats will compete in a men's field featuring 37 universities, including eight Big Ten foes. Conference opponents Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Rutgers, Ohio State and Wisconsin will all be represented in the men's division.
Last year's champions, Pennsylvania, will also be back in search of a second straight team title.

Following the Midlands Championships, Northwestern will gear up for Big Ten dual season, which kicks off next weekend on the road at Purdue. The 'Cats will return home to Welsh-Ryan Arena for their conference home opener on Jan. 17 against Michigan.
