Northwestern ranked third in USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings
EVANSTON, Ill. (November 14, 2024) – After seeing each member of its top five post new personal bests at the Big Ten Championships earlier in the month, Northwestern cross country will continue postseason action on Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill.
Bradley University's Newman Golf Course will serve as the host site of the regional meet. Action in the women's 6k race is slated to get underway at 11 a.m. Links to watch and follow live results can be accessed above.
Northwestern enters Friday residing at No. 3 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Regional Rankings, sitting behind only Oklahoma State and Minnesota, respectively.
The 'Cats are coming off a seventh-place showing at the Big Ten Conference Championships back on November 1 in Champaign, Ill. Ava Earl led the attack for Northwestern, placing 14th overall in 19:42.2 to secure Second Team All-Big Ten accolades. Earl, who shaved more than 32 seconds off her previous 6k personal best, placed eighth at last season's NCAA Midwest Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Chloe Wellings (33rd; 20:05.7) and Maddy Whitman (47th; 20:15.6) both battled their way inside the top 50 at the league meet, while Ava Criniti (54th; 20:20.7) and Jackie Holman (58th; 20:24.9) rounded out an impressive showing by the Wildcats.
Northwestern will be looking to replicate its success from earlier this season at the Newman Golf Course, where it swept the team and individual titles in both women's races at the Bradley Pink Classic on October 18. Earl led the way for the 'Cats in the 6k red race, bringing home medalist honors in 20:14.4 as part of a dominant showing for Northwestern that saw it place seven runners inside the top 20. Mia Mraz was victorious in the 6k white race to begin the day, pacing a group of four 'Cats inside the top 15 with a time of 21:35.88.
The top two teams in the women's 6k race at the NCAA Midwest Regional, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing team, will move on to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wis. on Saturday, November 23.
