SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Northwestern women's tennis kicked off their fall tournament season with round robin play at the Notre Dame Invite in South Bend, Ind., over the weekend. The 'Cats faced off with players from Michigan, Ohio State and Tulane along with members of the hosting team.

Northwestern started the weekend strong with victories in four of five doubles matches on Friday evening. Five 'Cats also won singles victories against the Irish, including the first in collegiate action for first year Maia Louriero.

Play continued on Saturday against Tulane, with the duo of Sydney Pratt and first year Mika Dagan Fruchtman winning a 6-3 match during doubles play. In singles action, Northwestern took four of seven matches against Tulane, while Autumn Rabjohns, Jennifer Riester and Katya Shepherd Johnson added individual victories over Notre Dame.

The 'Cats closed out the weekend with matches against Michigan on Sunday. Louriero came out on top of another match (6-4, 6-4), finishing a 3-0 singles weekend, and Riester picked up her third individual victory as well, in a super tiebreak set.

All ten Wildcats competed in both singles and doubles competition, including each of the team's four newcomers. All three first years, along with transfer Shepherd Johnson, notched at least one victory at the invite.

Northwestern will continue play this week at the ITA Midwest Regional, set to begin on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio. Top finishers at the event will earn bids to the NCAA Individual Championships, set to be played in November.
