EVANSTON, Ill. (April 26, 2023) – After winning six of its final seven matches to close the regular season, No. 61 Northwestern women's tennis (11-12, 7-4 B1G) has turned its attention towards the Big Ten Tournament in West Lafayette, Ind.

Purdue University will play host the 2023 edition of the conference tournament at the Schwartz Tennis Center, where the Big Ten's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament will be up for grabs.

Northwestern, which is seeded fifth, will open its stay in The Hoosier State in Thursday's second quarterfinal at 11 a.m. (CT) when it will take on the winner of the opening-round tilt featuring No. 12 Michigan State and No. 13 Rutgers.  With a victory on Thursday, the 'Cats would advance on to face fourth-seeded Wisconsin at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday.

LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern put an exclamation point on the regular season this past weekend, rolling to 4-0 wins over No. 53 Iowa and No. 68 Nebraska.  Aino Alkio, who, alongside Briana Crowley, was honored in Sunday's Senior Day ceremony against the Cornhuskers, posted a 2-0 weekend in singles play, while the pairing of Christina Hand and Sydney Pratt won both of their doubles contests.

By virtue of its two ranked wins over the weekend, Northwestern jumped 13 spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Team Rankings, ascending to No. 61 in the national poll.  The Wildcats are one of 11 Big Ten teams to be ranked entering the postseason.

The pairing of Hand and Justine Leong is ranked for the sixth straight doubles poll, appearing at No. 56, while Hand sits at No. 120 in the singles rankings.
