EVANSTON, Ill. — The No. 2 Northwestern lacrosse team will play for a chance to win the Big Ten Conference regular season championship road at Ohio State at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 15. The game will air on ESPNU. By virtue of Penn State defeating Maryland (4-1 B1G) on Thursday night, the Wildcats (4-0 B1G) can win at least a share of the title.

10 Things to Know

  1. Northwestern is 13-1 (4-0 B1G) and is on a 13-game winning-streak, which is tied for the second longest active streak in the country. It will look to go undefeated on its three-game road swing after recording wins at Rutgers (16-6) and UAlbany (21-11) last weekend.
  2. Graduate student Izzy Scane leads the country with 68 goals scored this season. The Clarkston, Mich. native has recorded 257 career goals, which ranks second in program history behind Selena Lasota's (2015-19) 287 goals.
  3. Senior Erin Coykendall has logged 38 assists this season, the ninth-most in a single-season in school history, and one more than the 37 she produced on last season's NCAA national semifinalist team. Her 128 career assists are tied for second in the program's record book with Lindsey Munday (2003-06). Hannah Nielsen's (2006-09) 224 assists is the program and NCAA benchmark.
  4. The Wildcats are looking to win their fifth road game of the 2023 season. NU last won five road games in a season in 2021 when it went 5-0 against a Big Ten-only schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  5. First-year Madison Taylor captured her league-record eighth Big Ten Freshman of the Week award last week after combining to post six goals and four assists against the Scarlet Knights and Great Danes. She broke Scane's record of seven conference freshman of the week awards in 2019. Taylor's 36 goals this season are the third-most by a first-year in the country, trailing Cincinnati's Camryn Callaghan (49) and Army West Point's Brigid Duffy (47).
  6. Northwestern's 13-game win-streak is its longest since 2021 when the team won 15-straight before falling in the national semifinals. The school record is 41 straight wins that spanned parts of the 2008 and 2010 seasons and the entire 2009 campaign.
  7. The Wildcats lead the country in scoring offense, averaging 18.1 goals per game. Northwestern also paces the NCAA recording an average margin of victory of 8.6 goals per game. Inside the draw circle, the 'Cats are one of the nation's best, ranking sixth nationally and leading the Big Ten averaging 17.4 draw controls per game. Sophomore Samantha Smith leads the team with 77 draw controls, while Taylor ranks second on the team with 41.
  8. The 'Cats are 19-3 all-time against Ohio State and have won the last nine straight games. The nine consecutive wins are NU's second-longest active streak against a Big Ten opponent, trailing only Michigan (13, 13-0 all-time). Northwestern is 7-1 all-time against the Buckeyes in Columbus. The Wildcats defeated Ohio State last year in Evanston 22-14 in the Big Ten opener. NU has scored 20+ goals in each of the last three matchups against the Buckeyes: 2022 (22), 2021 (21) and 2020 (23).
  9. Northwestern assistant coach Alexis Venechanos is making a return to Columbus where as head coach, she led the Buckeyes to an 86-73 record from 2011-19. Additionally, NU's Director of Player Development, Jaclen Moxley, played for Venechanos at OSU and was a Buckeye from 2016-20.
  10. Ohio State (5-9, 0-4 B1G) has won four of its five games this season at home, last defeating Louisville 16-6 on March 28. Jamie Lasada leads the team with 46 points (21 goals, 25 assists), while Nicole Ferrara has scored a team-best 35 goals.

The Wildcats close out the regular season in Evanston and will play their first outdoor game of the year at Martin Stadium under the lights at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 22 against Maryland. The game will air on BTN.
