Danielle Williams Throws No-Hitter, 'Cats Sweep Weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Danielle Williams tossed the second no-hitter of her career on Sunday in a 4-0 win over Stanford to complete a weekend sweep for Northwestern softball.
Williams retired 21 of the 24 batters she faced, striking out 11 while allowing just two walks and one hit batter. She improves to 11-1 on the season to go along with a 0.94 ERA, and 131 strikeouts. She also earned her fourth save of the season in the Wildcats' first game of the Sunday doubleheader, striking out the potential game-tying run as her lone batter faced.
It marks the 53rd no-hitter in program history, with the last one coming via a Williams perfect game at Iowa on April 16, 2021. She is now the 11th different Wildcat pitcher in program history to throw multiple perfect games in her career.
Northwestern now sits at 19-4 on the season, marking the 'Cats' best start through 23 games in the 21-year Drohan era. NU also extended its winning streak to nine with back-to-back weekend sweeps. The Wildcats now head back home for seven-straight games at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.

The Wildcats opened the morning with a 5-2 win over Ball State, marking the 'Cats' third win over the Cardinals in a week span. Lauren Boyd earned the win, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out nine.
Nikki Cuchran opened the scoring for Northwestern in game one, driving in two with an RBI-single up the middle. Angela Zedak kept the momentum rolling in the first with an RBI-double for to extend the lead to three in the opening frame. Northwestern opened up the lead to as many as five before allowing two to Ball State in the top of the seventh.
Cuchran jumpstarted the Wildcat offense again in game two, driving in Rachel Lewis and Maeve Nelson with a two-out single. Cuchran finished the weekend hitting .583 (7-for-12) with 10 RBI and three runs scored. She now leads the team with a .394 batting average on the season along with 25 RBI.
Nelson added to the Wildcats lead in the third inning with a two-out double to score Jordyn Rudd from first base. In the seventh inning, Sydney Supple extended the lead to four with an RBI-single.
Northwestern will host Loyola Chicago on Tuesday, March 22 for the Wildcats' home opener at 3 pm CT before welcoming in the Michigan State Spartans in for a three-game series from March 25-27 to open the Big Ten season.
