'Cats Fall to No. 17 Tar Heels in ITA Kickoff Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Northwestern fell 4-0 to No. 17 North Carolina, the No. 6 seed in the ITA Indoor Championships, on Saturday on the road.
Despite a series of tight singles matches, the Tar Heels pulled away at No. 5 singles and won some key tiebreaks at No. 2 and No. 3 to secure the win.
Steven Forman took the opening set from No. 60 Brian Cernoch and went to a second set tiebreak in a match that finished at 6-3, 6-7, 1-1. Presley Thieneman also took his opening set at No. 4 singles.
The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow against the 20th seed in the event, Arizona State. The match is set for 11 a.m. CT.
