
'Cats Complete Weekend Sweep of No. 2 Iowa

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wildcats finished off the regular season with their second win over No. 2 Iowa, besting the Hawkeyes 1-0.
Defense was the name of the game with goalkeeper Florien Marcussen registering three saves in the first quarter. In total, Marcussen and Annabel Skubisz combined for six saves in Northwestern's fourth shut-out win of the season.
The 'Cats came out firing, putting up four shots in the first while the Hawkeyes registered three. Both teams notched two shots in the second quarter but the game remained tied up at 0-0 going into the half. Finally, at the end of the third quarter and after three shots from the Wildcats, Bente Baekers once again came up with the game-winner. After stealing a pass deep in Northwestern's offensive half she scored to the far post for her 10th goal of the season.

Iowa rattled off four shots in the final quarter, but the Northwestern defense was a brick wall. With two blocks and a save by Skubisz, the 'Cats were able to sweep Iowa.
Northwestern will spend the next week in Iowa City for the Big Ten Tournament, beginning with a rematch vs. No. 6 Rutgers in the first round.
