EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 7. Northwestern dispatched Minnesota, 6-1, on Friday night at the Combe Tennis Center to maintain its undefeated start to Big Ten Play.
The Wildcats improved to 4-0 in the Big Ten and 7-1 overall.
After winning the doubles point, the 'Cats saw singles wins from Julie Byrne, Clarissa Hand, Briana Crowley, Caroline Pozo and Christina Hand,
Byrne, ranked No. 57. in the country, got on the board first with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Dalili Said at No. 2 singles. Pozo followed suit with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Hart at No. 5, and Christina Hand clinched the match for Northwestern with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
Continuing play, Clarissa Hand and Crowley both pulled off three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
The Wildcats clinched the doubles point thanks to a 6-1 win from Maria Shusharina and Clarissa Hand at No. 3 and a 6-2 win at No. 2 from Crowley and Clarissa Hand.
Northwestern continues its undefeated Big Ten Campaign on Sunday against Wisconsin at Noon at home.
