ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 6 Northwestern went toe to toe with No. 2 Michigan, but ultimately dropped a 2-1 meeting on Friday night in Ann Arbor.
Michigan took an early 1-0 lead late in the first quarter and maintained that score through the end of the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats, however, flipped a switch on the Wolverines in the fourth quarter and quickly evened the score at 1-1 behind a successful penalty corner goal from Clara Roth. It marked Roth's eighth goal of the season and her fourth over the last six games.
The 'Cats continued to sway the momentum to finish off regulation, outshooting the Wolverines 10-2 throughout the fourth quarter. In the first 10 minutes of the first overtime period, NU continued to dominate the chances with a 4-0 shot advantage.
Michigan ultimately capitalized on a penalty corner attempt just over two minutes into the second overtime period to seal the victory.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action on Sunday morning for its final non-conference match of the season, traveling to Ball State.
