'Cats Split Weekend in Tucson

Tucson, AZ – Northwestern split their opening weekend of 2020 with the women dominating Arizona 238-109 and Northern Arizona 255-86 while the men fell just short to Arizona, 199-154.

The Wildcats kicked off the meet sweeping both the men's and women's  400 medley relays.
 
The women's team of Calypso Sheridan, Hannah Brunzell, Miriam Guevara and Malorie Han touched in a time of 3:40.75, followed closely by a second NU team of Nicole Aarts, Sophie Angus, Krystal Lara and Maddie Smith

On the men's side, the team of sophomore Manu Bacarizo and first-years Kevin Houseman, Federico Burdisso and Aleksa Bobar out-touched their competition by almost three seconds in a time of 3:15.72.
 
On the first day of competition, the 'Cats took home nine individual event wins including Ilketra Lebl (1650 free), Brunzell (100 breast), Sheridan (100 Back, 200 IM), Bacarizo (100 Back), Houseman (100 Breast), Guevara (200 Fly) and Yohan Eskrick-Parkinson (1 Meter Dive).

The Wildcats started off day two just as strong, with the women's 200 medley relay team of  Sheridan, Angus, Guevara and Smith besting their competition by almost two seconds in a time of 1:40.25.
 
In his collegiate opener, first-year Federico Burdisso finished just over a second ahead of his competition in the 100 fly to lead the 'Cats sweep of the event, with Guevara winning the women's by over two seconds.
 
Northwestern had their second and third sweeps of the day in the 200 breast and 200 back, with first-year Marcus Mok and Sheridan leading the way for the 'Cats in the breast and first-year Emma Lepisova and Bacarizo sweeping the 200 back.
 
First-year Markie Hopkins also swept the diving boards taking both the 1M and 3M to bring the 'Cats individual win total of the weekend to 17.
 
The Wildcats will be back in the pool tomorrow afternoon as they take on Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona.
