1/22/2020 2:55:00 PM | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
Evanston, IL- #16/#21Northwestern swimming and diving begins its penultimate weekend of the regular season Friday by welcoming Cincinnati to Evanston before making the trip north to take on Wisconsin in Madison, WI.
The matchup between the Wildcats and the Bearcats is their second straight late January meeting. Northwestern swept that meet last season in southwestern Ohio with the men scoring 172.5 points and the women scoring 170. Cincinnati comes into this one fresh off of sweeps of Oakland, Kenyon and Xavier.
Northwestern then takes an undefeated conference record (5-0 combined) to Wisconsin, also undefeated in the conference after sweeping Minnesota in November. This is the Wildcats first meet at Wisconsin since November 2014.
Northwestern is coming out of last weekend with split results for the men's and women's squads, both falling to Notre Dame on the road and both picking up wins at home against Iowa.
The relays shined in both meets. The women's 400 medley team grabbed gold early over Notre Dame by nearly 2 seconds before both men's and women's 200 medley teams took the top spot against Iowa.
First-year Frederico Burdisso will look to stay hot after a weekend in which he finished first in the 200 fly on Friday then set a school and pool record in the 200 fly on Saturday. The women flexed butterfly dominance as well, led by Miriam Guevara's first place finishes in the 100 and 200 fly against Iowa. This weekend they will look to keep the momentum going against butterfly stars Jordyn Ryan (Cincinnati) and Michael Milinovic (Wisconsin).
The 'Cats hit the water against Cincinnati at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 24 and against Wisconsin at noon on Saturday, January 25. They will close out the regular season the weekend after versus Minnesota and at Purdue.
