
'Cats Fall to Michigan in Big Ten semifinals

LINCOLN, Neb. — Northwestern fell to top-seeded Michigan, 4-1, in the semifinals of the 2019 Big Ten Women's Tennis Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Northwestern nearly nabbed the doubles point as Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan won 6-2 at No. 2, while Michigan claimed the win at No. 1. Rheeya Doshi and Inci Ogut took Alyvia Jones and Lera Patiuk to 5-4 at No. 3 before falling, 6-4.
The Wolverines built their lead to 3-0 with wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles and then McColgan put NU on the board with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 6. Brienne Minor earned the clincher at No. 3 with a three-set win at No. 4.
Northwestern is 15-10 overall on the season and will learn where its postseason destination with the NCAA selection show on Monday, April 29, at 5:30 p.m. CT.
