'Cats Head to Hoosier State for Pair of Matches

No. 13 Northwestern travels to the Hoosier state this weekend for a pair of matches against Indiana and Purdue. The Wildcats battle IU on Saturday, March 9 at 9:30 a.m. CT, before taking on Purdue on Sunday at noon CT.

Northwestern (7-5, 1-0 B1G) is coming off a comfortable 5-2 victory over Illinois. The Wildcats took No. 1 and No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-4. Julie Byrne defeated Jaclyn Switkes 6-0, 6-1 in her singles match. Byrne is 8-4 in singles play during dual matches.
Byrne and Hannah McColgan enter the weekend as the 32nd ranked doubles team in the country, with Lee Orr and Clarissa Hand coming in at 47th. Hand is also ranked in singles, the No. 37 singles player in the country.
Indiana plays its first conference match of the year against Illinois on Friday, March 8th, but comes into this weekend with a three-match winning streak. Indiana has the 45th ranked doubles pairing in Madison Appel and Jelly Bozovic. Last season, Northwestern defeated Indiana, 6-1.
Purdue has lost its last five matches, including losses at No. 28 Oklahoma and No. 29 Tennessee. Purdue has the No. 31 singles player in the country in Silvia Ambrosio, who is 4-5 on the spring season. Ambrosio and Amina Mukhametshina are also the no. 77th ranked doubles pairing in the country. The Wildcats topped Purdue, 4-0, last season.
