'Cats Dominate Iowa, 7-0

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern opened a pair of weekend matches with a commanding 7-0 victory over Iowa on Friday evening at Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats started off strong with a dominant 6-0 win by Clarissa Hand and Lee Or at No. 1 doubles. The No. 20 ranked pairing is now 7-3 on the season.
The No. 27 ranked duo of Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan clinched the doubles point for the 'Cats with their 6-1 victory, moving their record to 7-3 on the campaign as well.
Carol Finke kept the Wildcats' momentum going with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles to improve to 4-0 in competition. Or quickly followed Finke with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 slot before No. 109 Byrne clinched the win for the Wildcats with a 6-3, 6-1 showing to move to 8-4 in singles play.
No. 30 Hand battled to a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) in the No. 1 singles match. Coming off her selection as Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the first-year found her stroke in the second set and went on to secure her sixth win of the season in a tiebreak.
Caroline Pozo and Rheeya Doshi wrapped up the sweep for Northwestern in a pair of more contested matches. Pozo won 11-9 in a third set tiebreak after splitting the first two sets 4-6, 6-0. Doshi took tiebreaks in the first and third sets to grab a 7-6 (3), 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) victory and conclude the duel.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Sunday morning as they host No. 20 Pepperdine at Combe Tennis Center beginning at 11 a.m.
