‘Cats Head to New York for Showdown Against No. 10 Columbia

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 43 Northwestern is riding a five-match win streak it travels to New York to take on the No. 10 Columbia Lions Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
 
The Wildcats are fresh off another successful Sunday double-header, taking down Ball State and UIC last weekend to improve its record to 8-5. The Wildcats didn't drop a single match, and all nine of the 'Cats singles victories came in straight sets.
 
Junior Dominik Stary made quick work in his No. 2 singles match against Ball State, winning 6-0, 6-2. First-year Trice Pickens continued to impress, collecting his ninth singles win of the season, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 against Ball State.
 
Sophomore Nick Brookes swept both of his singles matches at No. 1, winning 6-3, 6-3 against Ball State and 6-0, 6-4 against UIC. Senior Ben Vandixhorn picked up his second singles win in as many matches, defeating UIC 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.
 
The No. 1 doubles team of Simen Bratholm and Nick Brookes won their eighth straight match on the season. The duo improved to 10-1 overall after defeating Ball State 6-3.
 
Columbia enters the match with a 5-1 record and is coming off back-to-back top 15 wins. They Lions defeated No. 11 Notre Dame, 4-2, and No. 9 Baylor, 4-1, at the ITA Team Indoor Championships in Chicago. The Lions also took on No. 1 Wake Forest at the Championships, falling 2-4. Their roster includes four ranked singles competitors, with Sophomore Jack Lin ranked the highest at No. 10. The doubles team of Lin and Matheson also ranks No. 5.   
 
The last time the two teams faced off was back in March of 2015 when the 'Cats defeated then No. 23 Columbia, 4-3, in Evanston.
