'Cats Cruise Past Ball State and UIC, Extend Streak to 5-0

EVANSTON, Ill. – Sunday evening at the Combe Tennis Center, Northwestern secured their second consecutive Sunday sweep. The Wildcats took on Ball State and UIC to extend their win streak to 5-0 with 7-0 and 4-0 wins respectively.

Chicago's Big Ten Team started the day off strong by winning the doubles point and never looked back. No. 2 doubles team of Chris Ephron and Dominik Stary struck first for the 'Cats defeating the Ball State team of Danilo Kovacevic and Tom Carney, 6-1. Playing in the No. 1 doubles position, Nick Brookes and Simen Bratholm clinched the doubles point after defeating Marko Guzina and Nemanja Guzina, 6-3.
 
On their way to a perfect match,  NU dropped each of their opponents in two sets, starting with Stary playing at the No. 2 position. Facing off against Ball State's Marko Guzina, Stary made quick work of this opponent, 6-0, 6-2. In a similar fashion, Trice Pickens took his match 6-3, 6-0 followed quickly by Chris Ephron in the No. 4 position who clinched the match for the 'Cats (6-2, 6-2).
 
Northwestern decided to play out and went 3-0 in their remaining matches.
 
The Wildcats were back on the court a few hours later, to face off against UIC for their second match of the day.
 
Northwestern started the match by making quick work of the doubles point with No. 3 doubles team of Ephron and Ben Vandixhorn taking down UIC team of Anthony Nguyen and Kailash Panchapakesan 6-2. No. 2 doubles team of Antonioni Fasano and Pickens followed suit, defeating Johan Hedstrom and Casper Parlklo 6-3 to claim the first point of the match.
 
Simen Bratholm claimed the first point of singles play sweeping UIC's Pelle Strandberg 6-0, 6-0. Brookes followed closely behind, taking the No.1 singles point 6-0, 6-4. After a strong showing in doubles play. Vandixhorn sealed the deal 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the match for 'Cats the 4-0.
 
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back on the court February 24th in New York to take on Columbia starting at 11 am.
