UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Matt Moderwell scored his third goal of the season and Mattias Tomasino found the back of the net for the first time this year to help Northwestern take Penn State to overtime, but the Nittany Lions scored the game-winner in the 98th minute to pull out the victory.
After an early penalty, the Wildcats were forced to play a man down the rest of the game but kept the game tied 0-0 heading into the locker room and came out attacking early in the second half. Moderwell's goal came in the 50th minute to give Northwestern the 1-0 lead.
Penn State responded with two goals within five minutes of each other to take control of the game.
In the final three minutes of regulation, Tomasino found the back of the net on a 35-yard free kick to force overtime.
Chicago's Big Ten Team returns home for a Monday night friendly on Oct. 14 against Aurora at 6pm.
