EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern rallied to top No. 17 Miami, 4-3, and earn a spot in the ITA National Indoor Team Championships for the first time since 2014.

The 'Cats got out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. The teams split the first two matches, with Rheeya Doshi and Caroline Pozo coming out on top, 6-3, at No. 3, while Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan were edged out, 6-4, in a tough battle at No. 2. That meant the doubles point would be decided at No. 1, where Clarissa Hand and Lee Or won three of the final four games to secure the point for Northwestern with a 6-4 win.

Northwestern wasted no time extending its lead during singles play, as Julie Byrne defeated No. 82 Daniela Roldan at No. 2 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

The Hurricanes responded by winning the next three matches at No. 5, No. 1 and No. 3 to take a 3-2 lead. For the second straight day, Northwestern needed two wins in its final two matches to clinch the victory.

For the second straight day, Northwestern delivered. At No. 4, Inci Ogut won the first set before losing a hard-fought tie-breaker, 9-7, in the second set. She came out firing in the third, running away with the set, 6-1, to give Northwestern its third point, tying Miami.

After losing her first set, 6-3, at No. 6, Caroline Pozo rebounded and forced a third set when she claimed the second by a score of 6-3. After falling behind 3-2 in the final frame, Pozo tied it up by the time Ogut clinched her match. With her teammates watching, she went on to win three of the next four sets to clinch the victory for the Wildcats.

After winning both matchups over No. 22 UCF and No. 17 Miami, the 'Cats will now advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships next month at the University of Washington.

The 'Cats captured back-to-back ITA Indoor titles in 2009-10.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will travel to Nashville next Sunday, Feb. 3 to take on Vanderbilt at 1 p.m.
