'Cats Set for Windy City Clash at Loyola Friday

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern continues its three-game trip away from Martin Stadium with trek down Sheridan Road for a Chicago Derby against Loyola on Friday, Sept. 7, Kick is set for 7:00 p.m. CT at Loyola Soccer Park (6336 N. Hoyne).
This is Northwestern's first contest against a Chicago-area club this season. The Wildcats swept their matches against local foes in 2017, topping Loyola, UIC and DePaul.
The Wildcats (2-1-1) finished the Wisconsin Invitational last weekend with a 1-1 mark. Tommy Katsiyiannis scored the lone goal in the 72nd minute to beat Valparaiso, 1-0, on Saturday evening. In Monday's matchup against No. 15 Fordham, the 'Cats scored twice courtesy of Bardia Kimiavi and Mattias Tomasino, but the Rams struck in the 96th minute of overtime to send Northwestern to its first loss of the season.
The 'Cats had gone 358 minutes without surrendering a goal to open the season until Fordham scored its first goal in the 68th minute.
In last season's matchup at Martin Stadium, Katsiyiannis tallied the golden goal in the 104th minute to sink the Ramblers, 2-1, in a double overtime thriller. Ty Seager also scored in the contest, with assists by the brother duo of Matt and John Moderwell.
Loyola-Chicago (1-2-0) is playing its third-straight home match after a season-opening loss at No. 14 Western Michigan. The Ramblers topped mutual-opponent Cleveland State, 1-0, on Aug. 27, before suffering a 6-1 loss at the hands of Oakland last time out on Sept. 2.
Former Northwestern associate head coach Neil Jones is now in his sixth campaign as head coach of the Ramblers. The Auckland, New Zealand native helped guide the Wildcats to back-to-back Big Ten titles and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances in his three seasons in Evanston.
